As an infectious disease and HIV specialist, Dr. Alyssa Shon provides consultations and care at the HIV/AIDS Immunodeficiency Clinic at ECMC. Given that HIV has become a chronic illness, her practice includes treating patients requiring comprehensive care plans that include both antiretroviral therapy and primary care.
In addition, Dr. Alyssa Shon participates in antiretroviral therapy clinical trials at the clinic. These studies are crucial in evaluating the effectiveness and safety of new medications and new combination regimens. Patients are screened for eligibility for ongoing trials during their visit, and eligible candidates are enrolled.
As Clinical Assistant Professor at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Dr. Alyssa Shon supervises medical students, residents, and fellows as they develop crucial skills in infectious diseases: recognizing important physical findings, developing differential diagnosis and selecting appropriate antibiotic treatment.
