This state-of-the-art, 18-bed critical care unit was designed by trauma nurses and physicians, who configured the unit to accommodate the advanced technology needed to care for our sickest patients (such as our fluoroscopy suite) while optimizing efficiency in patient care.

Patients in the TICU are cared for by an interdisciplinary team of experts who are specially trained in the care and management of critically ill and injured patients. This collaborative team of nurses, physicians, physical and occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, dietitians, social workers, and clergy provide care based on best practices. That’s just one reason why we’re known for our results and why so many patients and families count on ECMC.

The TICU is dedicated in honor of the late John R. Border, MD, an internationally recognized pioneer in modern trauma care, research, and intensive care medicine. Dr. Border founded ECMC’s Trauma Center, which was first established in 1978.
