Jennifer Weierheiser Selected as a Daisy Award Honoree
Congratulations to Jennifer Weierheiser for her selection as a Daisy Award honoree! The Daisy Award is a national recognition that honors the amazing work nurses do for patients and families every day. Nominations are submitted by a patient or family member to applaud the nurse’s dedication and compassionate care during the patient’s stay. The Nurse Recognition Committee picks a nurse anonymously, based on their nomination, once per quarter, to be awarded in a surprise ceremony, which took place earlier today.
Jennifer started her career as a nurse at ECMC in May of 2015. She graduated from Erie Community College in 2014 and has been a nurse on 7 zone 2 since her start at ECMC. With all her patients and families, Jen takes the time to connect on a personal level. In submitting Jennifer for consideration of the Daisy Award honor, her supervisor noted that Jennifer, in a specific interaction with a patient, was able to make a 92 year-old woman feel like her wishes and concerns were always addressed, while providing emotional support and allowing for her to maintain her independence. Jen’s care, compassion, humor and respect for the patient as a person and for the traumatic event she had experienced, had given the patient and her family the coping skills to get through each day with small victories and hope for more. She anticipated the patient’s and the family’s needs and came up with creative ideas tailored to her in order to achieve her those needs. 7 zone 2 and ECMC are very fortunate to have Jennifer as part of our team, as she exemplifies ECMC’s mission and values to treat each patient with highest level of quality care. Jen’s compassion, caring and presence in this patient’s experience has been praised by her peers and colleagues.
Congratulations, Jen!
