Continuing Medical Education

HomeCareersContinuing Medical Education

As a participating site for the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and associated residency programs, ECMC is a place where new medical leaders can work alongside today’s experts to take patient care to new heights.

Our Mission

ECMC will be a leader in, and recognized for, academic affiliations that provide the best education for physicians, dentists, nurses, and other clinical staff.

Residency Opportunities

ECMC partners with the State University of New York at Buffalo Graduate Medical Education Program. Residency is an essential step in the journey from medical student to independent practitioner, as it allows resident physicians to begin to assume personal responsibility for patients and cases.

Each aspect of our residency programs are carefully overseen, including adherence to maximum work hours per week, mandatory time free of duty, minimum time off between scheduled duty periods, and scheduled didactic sessions.

Residencies are led by a program director and ECMC site director (if different from the program director).

Fellowship Opportunities

A fellowship is a period of medical training in the United States and Canada that a physician or dentist may undertake after completing a specialty training program (residency). During this time—generally lasting more than one year—the physician is known as a fellow. Fellows are capable of acting as an attending physician or consulting physician.

After completing a fellowship in the relevant subspecialty, the physician can practice without direct supervision by other physicians in that subspecialty.

Fellowships offered at ECMC include:

  • Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Infectious Disease
  • Nephrology
  • Hematology
  • Geriatrics
  • Palliative Care
