As Western New York’s designated Adult Regional Trauma Center, as well as a destination of choice for patients facing every kind of medical issue, ECMC offers a staff of surgeons with expertise that encompasses major surgeries, complex procedures and elective surgeries alike.
Each year, our surgeons—on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week—perform more than 12,000 surgeries, saving lives and helping patients throughout Western New York. In addition, the recovery area at ECMC’s Ambulatory Care Center puts dedicated nurses and staff and all pre- and post-operative care services in one central location, including a pain management program with steroid injections for patients in chronic pain.in.
Our technology, resources, and cutting-edge facilities also help make ECMC your best choice for a wide range of surgical procedures.
When it’s someone you love, there’s nothing “general” about general surgery. So whether from an accident, illness, or sports injury, our surgeons bring leading expertise to general surgeries across circumstances and health concerns.
Our specialized surgery includes larger-scale, more in-depth patient cases, including Pancreas and Kidney Transplants, Thoracic Surgery, Lung & Esophageal Cancer/Thoracic Surgery, and Vascular Surgery. We deliver specialized teams of surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists for the best possible outcomes.
So why should you choose ECMC for elective surgery?
So remember, even when it’s not an emergency, ask your doctor to refer you to ECMC.
Opened in 2003, ECMC’s Minimally Invasive Surgery Center is not just the first and only adult-focused operating room of its kind in Western New York—it’s also the most technologically advanced adult surgical suite of its kind for adults in our region.
The minimally invasive surgery suite at ECMC features advanced video technology that lets surgeons perform procedures through small incisions, with minimal scarring and fewer complications.
Minimally invasive procedures performed at ECMC include:

In 2005, ECMC acquired Compass, a navigation system for neurosurgery that isolates and identifies tumor location during surgery, providing a “map” for the surgeons even before they make their first cut.
The Center for Oncology Care at ECMC offers specialty plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery to restore a sense of normalcy and wellness after illness or trauma.
The Department of Surgery conducts four surgical clinics each week at ECMC. All clinics deal with general surgical problems, trauma referrals, and post-operative care. (Learn more »)
