ECMC’s inpatient and outpatient programs for substance use are designed to serve a variety of needs. All programs provide comprehensive medical and psychological treatment methods and are certified by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) and The Joint Commission.


Inpatient Programs

  • An Emergency Department substance use counselor is available 24 hours a day to provide substance use disorder assessments, determine appropriate level of care, and facilitate referral and placement.  
  • Withdrawal and Stabilization: For individuals in need of acute substance use–related medical intervention and counseling services.

Outpatient Substance Use Treatment Services 

ECMC cares for patients with substance-use disorders through an average of 25,000 outpatient treatment visits each year. 

Outpatient programs offer substance-use evaluations, short- and long-term individual counseling, group therapy, psychiatric consultation, and medication-assisted treatment services, including Suboxone, Naltrexone, and Vivitrol.


Treatments & Procedures

At ECMC, we offer specialized alcohol and drug addiction care on both an inpatient (for withdrawal and stabilization) and outpatient basis. Some of the services we offer include:  

  • Emergency Department substance use counseling 
  • Psychiatric assessments and follow-up 
  • Family counseling and therapy 
  • Group counseling 
  • Substance-use treatment for adolescents 
  • Comprehensive suboxone treatment, encompassing counseling and physician visits 
  • Counseling for the family and friends of patients 

We also offer specialized programs for patients diagnosed with both a mental health issue and substance-use treatment needs: 

  • Dually Diagnosed Treatment – This service allows counselors to provide treatment to individuals diagnosed with both a mental illness and substance-use disorder. 
  • Post-Traumatic Syndrome Disorder (PTSD) Treatment – This specialized treatment addresses the needs of patients who struggle with symptoms relating to the dual diagnoses of PTSD and substance-use disorder.
