The Regional Center of Excellence for Transplantation and Kidney Care

Located Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, NY, we’ve been performing kidney transplants since 1964 and pancreas transplants since 2004. Over this time, we have provided life-saving transplants to more than 1500 people.

Our experienced multidisciplinary team serves our community with consistently high scores in outcomes, satisfaction, and shorter waiting times for a transplant. We offer laparoscopic kidney donation surgery (through small incisions) to promote faster recovery, and advanced therapies in desensitization and paired-donor exchange to help candidates find a match.

Our Services

Kidney Transplants

Kidney transplantation is a surgery where you receive a kidney donated from someone else. The kidney transplant can work like your natural kidney used to, so it is the best option for most people.

Kidney Dialysis

For patients facing end-stage kidney failure, kidney dialysis serves as an artificial replacement for the body’s kidney functions, including waste removal.

Vascular Access

At the Regional Center of Excellence for Transplantation and Kidney Care, we’re pleased to offer an on-site Vascular Access Center (VAC) to make dialysis treatment easier and avoid unnecessary issues.

Pancreas Transplants

Pancreas transplantation is an option for those with type 1 diabetes. A functioning pancreas transplant will control the blood sugar; a positive result is that that patients’ quality of life is improved as they do not have to give themselves insulin injections.

Plasmapheresis

Plasmapheresis is a blood purification procedure used to treat several autoimmune diseases. It is also known as therapeutic plasma exchange.

End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Patient Education

ECMC’s Center for Outpatient Dialysis regularly holds End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Education Sessions. For anyone who is interested in learning more about this disease and the causes of it, this FREE session will help you and your family members/guests to gain a better understanding of ESRD.
