Biography

Dr. Richard M. Spiro is the Chief of Neurosurgery at ECMC, where his clinical focus is on complex cranial and spine injuries. He also serves as the Director of Neurotrauma for the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University at Buffalo.

Previously, he was the director of the Pennsylvania Brain and Spine Institute. Prior to that leadership role, Dr. Richard Spiro served on the faculty in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, eventually becoming the Division Chief of Spine Surgery, which was the largest spine division in the United States.

Board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Spiro has published extensively in peer reviewed medical journals on the topic of complex spinal reconstruction. He is a member of American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
